Academic Events
The day you graduate will be among the most important of your life. The graduation ceremony is something you will likely only have once, and the graduation ball needs to be a reflection of the culmination of all that hard work.
If you are a student secretary organising an academic dinner or event, I will guide you through the intricacies of planning the event as well as being at your side on the night so that you can be free to enjoy this once in a lifetime event!
I am fully trained and experienced in all aspects of academic event management as well as academic titles and forms of address. On the day I will:
- Keep all your guests advised as to proceedings
- Organise receiving lines and liaise with dignitaries including the Chancellor or (Pro) Vice Chancellor to keep them fully abreast of proceedings
- Move the guests to where they need to be in a professional, yet non-dictatorial manner
- Announce any relevant points of administration
- Announce the Chaplain to say grace. (if there is no-one, I will be glad to do this.)
- Be on hand throughout the entire event should you have any immediate concerns
- Co-ordinate and announce speeches, paying attention to all relevant academic etiquette.
- Assist with awards ceremonies if necessary
- Announce any special messages
In other words, I will take all the pressure away so that you can relax and enjoy the day!
I have worked with many great institutions, especially the University of Worcester and it’s Chancellor HRH the Duke of Gloucester GCVO. As a macebearer, I am present for every graduation ceremony in the city to which the Chancellor attends.
